"Offensive" Post Removed

My last post, "80's Music Rules ~ iPod Shuffle Mania" apparently offended the DMCA and the post was summarily removed by Blogger. Later today, another post I put up months ago was removed - another threatening legal email - they can kiss my a$$.

This signals the end. I have neither the strength nor the will to keep battling. The two videos on YouTube that I have been fighting to keep up - I even had written notice from Tony Webb, Gary Numan's Father/Manager that it was OK with them to use the music - were taken down a second time this past week, thanks to Eagle Records. Now, I've had posts removed here and have been threatened with long-winded legalese.

I've decided that I will be happy with the music I have and will not spend another dime to support or promote the music industry. Too much of my own time and resources went into free advertising and promotion that was completely unappreciated. Screw the DMCA, the RIAA and all of the greedy pigs (sorry for insulting the animal world) that inhabit that filth-laden world.

I am deleting everything, killing the music links and closing down.

I couldn't bear to delete the post about David Marsden, nor the links to his site, so they will remain. The rest of it - swept under the carpet.

For all of you that took the time to write, I am very grateful for the (mostly) kind words. Especially, gentlemen artists like Tom from MOEV, Brendan Staunton, Mike Spencer, and Sean Quinn from Dubh Chapter who left great notes of appreciation for the exposure given to their music. I urge you to find a copy of Dubh Chapter's "Silence and Cunning" where you will hear some of the best music to come out of the early 90's. Go to Moev's site and buy their music. These are the types of artists that deserve our support.

X's and O's to fiftypercent, Chris, e-Mann, Davy, Salty, Jason, Glen, Ralph, haywire, McDoc, Meggsy, buk, willy, DJ Info, Marilyn Roxie, Robert, Steve (Australia), Jon and everyone else I may have missed that cared enough to read and comment on a regular basis. Your friendship means the world to me.

Finally - David Marsden. I am leaving links up to his site and his streaming radio show because he has been a source of endless joy for me through some very dark times. Go to 94.9 The Rock and listen to him streaming live on Thursday and Friday nights from 7 pm until midnight. It's "free-form" radio at its very best. Enter the chat room and you will come across some of the finest and warmest folks in the world.

Merry Christmas to my friends, and a large lump of reeking horse excrement to my foes.

80's Music Rules ~ and so does David Marsden

I've mentioned and linked the blog called Mars Bar Theatre before, but have not taken the time to explain what it's about. It is a fan's heartfelt tribute to a Canadian radio legend, David Marsden.

David's career spans nearly 5 decades. In the 80's, he was a fixture at the legendary Brampton, Ontario radio station CFNY (visit an informative site dedicated to CFNY called "The Spirit of Radio" here). This is a period held dear by many Canadians and border-dwelling Americans alike who sought out a glimmer of individuality in the dreary, cookie-cutter world of formulaic radio broadcasting. Top 40, EmpTV-driven, and heavy rotation domination formed the basis of most of the popular music stations here in the states. Those lucky enough to tune into CFNY, and David's show in particular, were treated to cutting edge music far superior to the glut of oft-repeated dreck prescribed by corporate-American fat cats who pretended to know what the public wanted to hear.

I accidentally stumbled across Mars Bar Theatre and, in so doing, struck up a "conversation" via email with the blog owner. He encouraged me to tune into David Marsden's show, brought to the world via 94.9 The Rock, the Internet and streaming media, every Thursday and Friday night from 7 pm until midnight. I tuned in for the first time last Thursday, and was instantly hooked.

"Eclectic" is a word I tend to overuse to describe the music on Marsden's show, but I really can't think of a better adjective. He selects music that is all over the place rather than from one specific genre, but is a joy to listen to because it all meshes so well. Some songs will sound vaguely familiar, some will have you slapping your forehead and exclaiming, "I can't believe I'm hearing this! It reminds me of..." Or even, "Wow - I haven't heard that since...!" The listening experience is a combination of a trip down memory lane and a lesson in creative broadcasting.

It's my recommendation that everyone give David's show a listen, visit Mars Bar Theatre to look over the playlists that Ralph, the blog owner carefully constructs based on the current night's show, and even take a trip to David's website, Marsden Global. Marsden is entertaining, irreverent, funny as heck and one of those unaffected celebrities that actually answers his email. Give him a shout - and you just may be lucky enough to get a "shout-out" back.
